Amavasya Tharpanam
What Our Dharma states: Apart from the ceremonies to be performed every month following the death culminating in the first anniversary of the death, Our Dharma prescribes that the forefathers should be worshipped thereafter also. When they leave this world it becomes the ordained duty of their progeny (sons) to conduct libation (Nithya Tharpanam) and perform ancestral prayers on a daily basis, apart from the 96 days in a year, like Amavasya (New Moon), Grihan (Eclipse Days), Parva Kala (Uttarayana, Dakshinayana), Pushkara Days, on the specific day (Thithi) of their own forefathers, upon visiting any Theertha Kshetras, etc.
Among these rites the important ones to be undertaken by the putra (son) in honour of his deceased parents and forefathers are Tharpanam on every newmoon day (Amavasya), Shraarddha on each anniversary of the deceased and most importantly the rites to be performed during the Pitrupaksha (Mahalayam) ancestral fortnight. In order to help our community members to fulfil their obligations to their Dharma, HDPA (Narayana Theertham) have organized online Amavasya Tharpanam on the Amavasya day according to the Australian timings.
Please click on this link to register your interest to take part in the monthly Amavasya Tharpanam. Amavasya Tharpanam will be guided by our resident Vadhyars through Zoom (online platform only) for those community members who follow YAJUR VEDA Apasthambha Sutra at 7:30AM on the every Amavasya day.
